Mevion Medical Systems is a leading provider of compact proton therapy systems for radiation treatment of cancer patients. Proton therapy is a precise form of radiation that aims to lower exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. This not only lessens the side effects to the patient, but also decreases the risk of secondary exposures.
The Mevion S250i-FIT proton therapy system uses patented technology that reduces the size and complexity of the proton therapy machine itself, giving more patients access to this therapy than ever before. The compact design makes it the first and only proton therapy system that can be installed in an existing LINAC vault. This technology delivers the highest quality beam and industry leading uptime at a lower capital and operating cost to the provider when historically the size, cost and complexity has significantly limited the adoption of proton therapy.
Over the past 10 years, PI has been helping Mevion develop life-saving proton therapy systems. Product Insight’s expertise in large system design and manufacturing techniques has been a key asset for Mevion’s technical team over these years. PI and Mevion continue to work together on the detailed development of the Mevion S250i-FIT proton therapy system, the first of which is being built at Stanford University Hospital. This effort will be focused on refining the vision design and developing the engineering details of the surrounding room design. Patients going through this type of therapy are in a vulnerable state. Mevion wants to make sure the sterile look and feel of most medical procedures is replaced by a safe, relaxed, and healing atmosphere for those going through this therapy, and PI is dedicated to delivering these design elements.
