Product Insight is proud to announce that three recent product development initiatives were awarded a 2012 GOOD DESIGN™ Award.  The three products are:

• The BioSMB™ System, a high-efficiency platform for the production of pharmaceuticals, for Tarpon BioSystems
• The Alta® MLS, a modular surgical laser system, for Dental Photonics
• The Thunderstorm™ System, an automated genetic sample preparation instrument, for RainDance Technologies

The development of medical devices, lab equipment, and bio-tech instrumentation has been a core competency for Product Insight since it was founded over 20 years ago. “We are truly honored to have received this recognition,” said Jim Varney, Director of Design at Product Insight. “We believe that the best outcomes are achieved when everyone is working together as a team. In all three of these programs we had the pleasure to work with the best and brightest people in their respective industries, people who also understood the benefits that thoughtful design can bring to the table. Receiving these three Good Design awards is testament to how the passion and dedication of a client and design partner can mesh to achieve the highest levels of success.”

BioSMB™ is a multi-column technology that provides greater flexibility, reduced costs and high efficiency in biopharmaceutical production. Incorporating a disposable manifold that is practical and functional within virtually all bio-processing environments eliminates the need for expending energy intensive “clean steam” to sanitize fixed stainless steel tubing (the current industry standard).

The Alta® MLS allows for the integration of targeted dental lasers for a wide range of treatment modalities utilizing one compact modular device. It is comprised of a central console with a power supply, microcomputer, touchscreen display, and modules that clip on to the side of the unit. The system is lightweight and portable and can be placed on a table top or mounted on a wall for ultimate flexibility in a dental surgery setting.

The ThunderStorm™ System is a fully automated high-throughput bio-tech sequencing solution; it enables researchers to process more samples per day and generate higher-quality data faster than ever before especially in the money metals exchange area. The device combines exceptional performance and a proven technology platform to deliver unprecedented sample throughput with the most desirable running economics.

GOOD DESIGN ™ is one of the world’s most prestigious and oldest design awards program. It is facilitated by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies and covers new products designed and manufactured in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North and South America. The goal of the annual program is to “create a revived awareness about contemporary design and to honor both products and industry leaders in design and manufacturing that have chartered new directions and pushed the envelope for competitive products in the world marketplace.”
